The Elizabethan Singers is a mixed-voice choir, formed by Musical Director Andrew Willoughby, formerly Director of Music at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, Alford. Several of the founder members were former pupils of Queen Elizabeth’s, hence the name of the choir. Since then we have grown in numbers, recruiting excellent new singers, bringing us to a current total of 30 members.
Jane O’Farrell has been our accompanist since the formation of the choir. She is well known in the local area as an excellent teacher and performer. Most recently, she has also been the accompanist of Fenwold Opera – a small opera group of students from the Royal Northern College of Music. As well as accompanying the choir she often performs piano solos at our concerts.
Our repertoire is very broad, from songs of the Elizabethan period and classical pieces to medleys from Broadway stage musicals. We have a particular passion for songs by the great American songwriters of the 1930s – Gershwin, Kern and Cole Porter. We also love sacred music and have performed Fauré’s Requiem, Vivaldi’s Gloria and Dvořák’s Mass in D.
We are keen to bring live music to different venues in East Lindsey. Please contact us if you have an event at which you would like us to perform. We are particularly interested in events which support local charities. Expenses vary according to the type of event and we will be very happy to discuss this with you.
